Ashmead College was founded in 1974 as the Seattle Massage School. As an avenue of personal health care, massage was still very much a fringe discipline. The school continued as a small but highly regarded post-secondary school dedicated to giving aspiring massage practitioners both the technical and philosophical grounding to succeed.

In 1999, Ashmead announced its first significant offering outside massage with its Fitness Trainer Program. It quickly drew national attention from the complementary health care industry and employers eager to hire the program's graduates. Programs Offered: Fitness Trainer Graduates of our Fitness Program are prepared for careers in health and fitness centers, YMCA & YWCA fitness programs, athletic training facilities, and as personal trainers. Specific courses within the program prepare graduates for careers working with elderly, disabled and other special populations. The Fitness Trainer Program will prepare you to become successful in the fitness industry. Professional Licensing in Massage Graduates of our massage program have a wide array of career options. Many choose to create and run their own massage practice while others choose to work in massage clinics, rehabilitative clinics, chiropractic offices, spas and resorts, with sports teams and as sponsors of sporting events. Professional Licensing in Spa and Aromatherapy Graduates of the Aromatherapy and Spa program are thoroughly versed in the history of Aromatherapy, the botany and chemistry of essential oils, the blending techniques of 30 essential oils, as well as spa therapies.
